Religion
Egyptian religion was based mainly on the belief of a multitude of gods, ranging from the god of death, to the god of the sky, to gods that weren't really gods at all. Here is a brief description of most of their gods. I know for a fact that there are a lot more, but I believe that these are the important ones. In Egypt, gods became associated with eachother to become more well liked and more popular. In the god's name "Amon-Re", the "re" at the end symbolizes that he was associated with the sun god, Re. Many other gods, although not associated with Re, put this suffix to the end of their name to appear as if they were more important. To top off the confusion, certain gods were worshipped in different places. One god would be well-liked in one village, and despised in the next. These patterns changed much over time. Once, the pharoah tried to standardize what gods the people would believe in. This resulted in a complete failure in power of the royal family. |
